4 Gigs DDR3 Ram showing at 2 Gigs in Vista 64

I have a really weird issue, here are the details.
Firstly, as stated in the title i do have Vista 64 bit.

Recently bought 2x2 Gig DDR3 1600
(corsair TW3X4G1600C9DH) with timings 9-9-9-24. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q3 Deluxe.
This chipset (Intel P45) has know issues with DDR3 running at higher than 1066, but this has supposedly been rectified with a BIOS update which i have flashed, so not sure if that is relevant as my problem is not speed related.

Under system properties the ram is shown as 4 Gigs but in task manager it says: Physical Memory, Total: 2046. The usage graph shows about 1.1 used and is just over half-way full.
Not sure if this is valid but i have a pre-release SP2, not sure if this could cause such a problem.

CPU-z shows both modules are there, but shows total 4 gigs, however Everest only shows 2 Gigs.
Screenshot below, hope this is not too big, but theres a lot of info to squeeze in.

Any help will be most appreciated.

Was it like this before you installed SP2?
If the BIOS is telling you 4GB is installed and Windows is showing otherwise, I would say it has something to do with Windows.

TERRIBLE, this is the Philippines after all.
1.Try force HAL

Dont know if this is a problem as well but while i was in there i saw that max mem was ticked and set on 2048, so unticked and enabled memory remapping in the BIOS, and its all good!!!

thanks for all the help guys!

Are you overclocking? Does your FSB bus match your CPU properly? What does your computer register at post. Reset the CMOS to do the memory count. I see 4GB on the one area.

I would start by clearing your CMOS with the jumper and computer unpluged. Reset the CMOS to default.

Those screenies r old, it does show 4 gigs now in task manager.

by default it runs at 1066, even my previous ram. All i have set in the BIOS is the ram frequency 1600, and the timings as the ram is rated.
The cpu is 1333fsb, board is 1600. The asus guy told me i couldnt run the ram at 1600 cuz of the 1333 fsb, guess he was wrong

You should be running DDR667 RAM with that CPU at 1333 MHz. You want the RAM set to auto frequency or DDR667.

I noticed it says u r a vista guru, maybe u can help with the following:
The svchost process has a thread called "wmiprvse.exe" which is using an abnormal amount of CPU power, and there is hard disk activity as well, games run really jerky unless i suspend the process with process explorer, any idea how to fix this? Anyone?
Some games wont load if it isnt running, have to resume -> load game -> suspend to play properly.
Really quite annoying.

It is DDR3, and not possible to run at 667, the lowest it comes in is 800 or 1066.
Auto on this board is 1066, but why run lower when it supports up to 1800?

wmiprvse.exe, Do you have all the patches applied. It is part of Windows management.

You are right about DDR3,

Here is what Crucial states for your board. 2GB sticks of 1066 RAM. Could your RAM be incorrect setup for that board? Can you return it?

Many things cause this...Do you have this problem in safe mode also? -If not:

1.First of all check your disk might you have some viruses ->wmiprvse.exe Windows process - What is it?

To diagnose you can use it this tool ->Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - Download

if your system is clear...

2.Update drivers for chipset, sound, graphics card and network card.Run Reliability Monitor and check all - might you have some trouble...
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69535-reliabilty-monitor.html
3.Try to reset Repository folder

run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on it as administrator if you use UAC) and type

NET STOP WINMGMT
RD /S C:\Windows\System32\WBEM\Repository
NET START WINMGMT

4.If you have any add-ones to explorer installed ->uninstall them.Disable also unnessesary add-ones for Internet Explorer http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/114310-internet-explorer-reset.html

5.May non-system codecs cause?Uninstall it and check results...
6.Do you have this problem also if you have only system services turned on? Make Clean boot procedure:How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use

His other posted issues point more towards his OS and hardware don't work well together.

pcbilski,

Do you have this memory? http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TW3X4G1600C9DHX.pdf. If so, acording to Corsair, the memory is compatible with your motherboard.

I would run memtest to see if the RAM is good. memtest will either pass or fail the RAM independent of the OS. Just burn the program to CD, put in CD-ROM, reboot windows and it will run without windows being loaded. So, if the RAM passes, you know it's not the RAM, if it fails, well you know you have a RAM problem.

You might also want to visit Corsair's forum for your memory concerns. You can also have a look at this thread here: TW3X4G1333C9DHX with Asus P5Q3 Deluxe wifi - The Corsair Support Forums. Might give you some ideas.

Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions, but as i said the RAM issue appears to be solved, running at 1600 and stable, no BSOD since i got all 4 gigs working.

Will try the suggestions for the wmiprvse problem and post back,
thanks!
