Hello,
I'm new here and could use some help, if everyone is willing to help me. Also sorry if someone had already did post on this issue, i've tried searching the forums and couldn't find anythign so i thought i would try making a post.

I had recently bought a new computer that had came with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. I have the computer for maybe about 1-3 weeks, it was doing just fine for what i was wanting it to do. But the past 2 days i would go turn on the computer enter my Password and it would just Hang/Freeze on the welcome screen. I have no problem at all booting up into SafeMode, and can usualy get into my account after having 30 or so attempts if lucky. Its just really frustrating and could some help if possible.

Heres the computer from what i can remember off the top of my head, if it would help any.

Aspire x3200 a3200-u3600a
4 GB
320 GB Harddrive
Triple Core Proscessor
DvD+RW

Any and all help is appriciated.
Thanks in advance.

What antimalware program are you running, and have you installed any software lately, bittorrents?, etc.,?

Four things to try to increase Windows Startup and Performance:
1. Scan for and clean malware here:http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
2. Run Check Disk to scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, and fix file system errors
3. Do a full system defrag under command prompt (run as admin) defrag c: -w
4. Remove the OEM "bloatware"

Ok i've tried the following steps that where suggested, I ran a Cheack Disk Scan after i had ran AVG, McAfee, Window Defender, CCleaner, & the program from here, http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/204286-freeze-hang-up-welcome-vista.html. It had booted up fine lastnight when i had gotten home from work, but then i had went to go download something so open the disk drive, noticed there was a disk in there, could that of caused the problem? Also i had gotten on aim, and now when i boot up i get an error from it, doesnt rly do nothing, but was wondering if there was a way i can make it so Aim wont boot up at all when i start the computer. And would stay that way even after i log into it, & out, i've tried MSconfig an disabling aim, but after i log into it just starts booting up again, also thanks for all the help guys/gals.

Open up AIM and go into settings and in general settings (or startup) there should be a "Start AIM with windows" and uncheck it.

That should fix that part.

As for the disk, it should not have caused a problem but test it anyways.

Ok, so i got the chance to test it out, tried it 12 times to be sure, 6 times with an disk in, then 6 times without, came up loading 6/6 times with the disk out, and loaded up only 2 times with the disk in. Seems that it was the disk that was causing my problem, or atleast seems like it was, atm its working smothley, no Hangs/Freez's at all atm.

Thanks again for all the help.

Two problems I see here:
1. Using Mcafee- This antivirus performed very poorly in recent antivirus/antimalware testing (29% detection rate) AV-Comparatives november 2008, failed the Vista SP1 testing (April 2008)-Virus Bulletin
2. Your are using a registry cleaner which are notorious for deleting Critical Windows files and causing system instability. Never let a registry cleaner just delete registry entries-they often do not discriminate between legitimate and unwanted items, and often do more harm then good. If you do not know the function of the entries a cleaner wants to delete- then do not let it delete them.

Aol instant messenger has a setting that allows you to disable auto startup at Windows login.

What was on the Disk? Sounds like that could be your problem....

Is it set to boot from CD first or HDD? To check that, go into BIOS and check the BOOT order.

Hey to fix this issue, it is pretty easy.

(Interesting there is no Tutorial for this... May have to make one)

So the Fix: Shut down the PC and turn it back on. When the BIOS screen shows up, press either DEL, ESC, or F1 (or something) to boot up the BIOS. Scroll over to BOOT (use the arrow keys) and scroll down to BOOT Device Priority. Hit enter, and move the HDD to the top. Then hit F10 and save and reboot. All your troubles should be solved there.

~Lordbob

P.S. If I make the tutorial, i will link it here.
