Solved Explorer folders toolbar selection missing

When I bring up Windows Explorer it no longer shows the tree view of folders in the left pane. Actually, there's no left pane at all. And the "folders" button on the toolbar is gone.

I've got Vista Ultimate 32bit on a quad-core 4G machine.

This just recently happened so I'm assuming something got clobbered.

Please help!

Shawn, I think he means the "Folders" option that is in the top bar. He wants the hierarchical view back.

Hi all, thanks for the replys.
The tutorial didn't work for me. The "Customize" option under View is not there.

If I go to a command line window and type in "explorer" it comes up with navigation but as soon as I go to any folder the navigation disappears and doesn't come back.

If I type in "explorer" with any command line options or launch explorer from a shortcut I don't get a navigation pane. This worked just fine for a couple of years until last week.

E.g.
explorer /root,desktop /select,c:\

I may have confused XP (which I use at work) regarding the "folders" button on the toolbar.

When you click on the Organize toolbar button and Layout, is the Navigation Pane option there to select?

Yes, Organize > Layout > Navigation Pane is there and IT WORKS! Which has also fixed the shortcut. Looks like I'm back in business. THANKS!

How do I toggle the Nav pane quickly? I don't want to go via the menu Organize > Layout > Navigation Pane every time. Otherwise, how to get the "Folders" button back? Thanks.

There is no other way that I know of to turn the Navigation Pane on and off other than this way. :(
