HELP NEEDED!! Vista 64 bit screeching sound and white screen

Hello everyone,

I just bought Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and up until now it has been a big dissaster.

The first time vista launched I noticed that the sound at the opening logo screen was just a long hard screeching sound. Then when I started clicking around and installing my programs in the desktop environment I noticed that all the sounds had been replaced by horrific screeching sounds.

After installing the Windows updates (hoping this might solve the sound problem) and my video drivers I restarted my pc. At the startup I still had the screeching sounds but now I also had white garbled lines on my desktop. When I started moving around my mouse cursor the screen started to get stuck at some places and white squares started showing up everywhere.

Then finally, to end it all my pc just jumped to standby mode and all I could do is reset the pc with the powerbutton.

When restarting the problem starts allover again.

When starting up in save mode the white garble and squares don't show up, but the sound stays screechy.

I have been looking all over google and forums but can't seem to find anyone with this problem.

Help will be very much appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Onboard sound?

Correct graphics drivers from NVidia?

Sound card or onboard sound could be bad... get a sound card (Cheap one) and try it out.

As for video, check drivers, if those are correct, video card may be going bad as well.

This is not windows problem, sounds like a hardware issue.

Hi there!

Thanks for the quick respons. I forgot to mention that I had Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit before this one and had no problems at all. But because of the 4 gb ram I wanted to upgrade to 64-bit. So I can almost say with a 99% certainty that it is not a hardware problem.

Maybe a incompatibility problem, but nothing is broke.
I do have an onboard soundcard but could that give me the white squares and lines on the screen?

First thing i did was upgrade my video and sound drivers... didn't seem to work.

Thanks for the help anyway.

I would disable onboard sound and checkout a cheap sound card to diagnose the issue, if it stops you know it's the soundcard. if not, perhaps the speakers? bad wire? bad connection?

I unless you have super old equipment, i dont see Vista 64 being the issue... checkout the MB Manufacturer website, for vista 64 drivers for your motherboard. and bios update.

Soundcard should not cause anything visual to happen.

do a thorough clean of the video card drivers, remove the video card (Physically) and make sure it is seated properly, and the monitor connection is secure. and try again with fresh 64bit vista video drivers from nvidia.

Just cause it worked before does not mean ther hardware is not the culprit here... things can go bad anytime, anyday.

Hi

Know this is 3 weeks old but I stumbled across this thread in google and am having much the same problem.

I'm using an Asus M2A-VM HDMI board, but with an nVidia GeForce 8600GT graphics card. When I install 64 bit, whenever sound should be coming out of the speakers, it's just extremely loud static screeching. Also, the video just randomly bombs out to a black screen on me, requiring a hard restart. Oddly, whenever I do something that requires the User Account Control screen, the video bombs out straightaway.

Everything works perfectly under both Vista 32bit and XP 32bit - just under 64bit everything goes crazy.

Using the latest 64bit drivers for the video and sound, and the latest BIOS version for the board.
