How often do you re-install Vista?

I'm tempted to call child services on you for abuse to your OS. I've never reinstalled my tower or my laptop (the wife's I have). They both boot in 20 or so seconds from post just like the day I bought them.

In all fairness, when I was running XP I was a monthly reinstaller because I was stubborn and didn't believe in restore and I was a tweaker. I've since learned I was an idiot.

I was exactly like that, I think I can safely say: as my boss told me - "I'm done with all the tweaking, messing, and getting dirty stuff. Right now I just want it to WORK."

Which is very true.

Vista... Hmm, Beta... was almost weekly reinstall; RTM.. less than a month and kept using XP instead; SP1 for testing, a week or so and was removed; SP2, maybe a month and was removed to keep using XP. (multi boots FTW!)

Windows7... haven't reinstalled it yet.

I also have some old computer with XP, was reinstalled on SP2 and SP3 just because I like to do "fresh" SP installations. But has always been working perfectly.

If you want to mess up the OS completely, consider Virtual Machines. I have a Virtual Machine with Windows 98 since... 2 years ago or so, still working fine. XD

My XP, once in a year, I've actually kept it through 2 service packs. But before that on my old rig probably 10 times over due to tweaking. Vista, reinstalled once, went straight to sp2. Only had to reinstall because lets face it. You can never install once and be satisfied with it. It has to be perfect so the second time around should do it. I'm fairly happy with mine right now.

There is no rhyme or reason to my reinstalls except that right now I'm wondering if Vista SP2 would be a better choice for now until any major bugs have had the chance to be squashed in Windows 7.

I've had my Vista PC for over 2 years now, and i've Reinstalled about 5 times. 4 of which were within the first 3 months (Lots of tweaking and getting used to the system) the 5th time was from a Virus that i was not in the mood to deal with.

But you'll also be the most sane Win7 SP1 user because you wouldn't have suffered the inevitable disaster period that comes with every new OS.

I have the original RTM Vista on my old desktop that hasn't been reinstalled since the release of the RTM.

It was my primary system until January (when I switched to Win7) - but it's still running. It's now my alternate system. I still test Microsoft beta releases on it, and it's also used to backup the data from my wife's office every night.

My Computer

I normally re-install 3-4 weeks because of constant tweaking, (Brink)..Lol jk :D
But I re-install because I like to keep the performance, when I re-install I do have to set about 4-5 hours to get up and running again, after backups, drivers, and other stuff.

I think the longest I've kept an installation was about 3 months.

You must be a masochist. I will not reinstall unless my system will not boot. That has never happened. I only had to install an OS from scratch once. That's enough for me. Including the non OS programs installation, it took 6 hours. That's too much torture for me.
