Optical Drive

This is just a simple but a wired issue that i faced in one of my friends computer, first the optical drive was not getting detected in MY COMPUTER, I deleted the upper/lower filter and the drive was detected, but it was not recogising the disk, after i installed the firmware the media was getting detected and but it was not reading the content of any cd not even the OS cd, i followed this KB Article of Autoplay because even that was an issue - but even that did not work. The optical drive did not even boot from a bootable cd, But one thing that i noticed is that the Icon of the drive changes if there is a cd inside as if there is a cd.

What can be the issue...???

Is the drive plugged in properly in the case?
