not a valid win 32 application

i try an open up a convert.exe or Las. exe and it tells me it is not a valid win 32 application.
Furst and foremost i am using a Windows vista 32 OS.
Am i in the right place.

Are those legitimate programs or malware? They could be written for older versions of Windows but should still run. If they are legitimate programs, right-click on the shortcut, choose compatibility and select the options that apply to that program.

i tried to run in compatability mode in xp 2003, windows 95, 98 etc but no luck so far and yes they are legitimate programs and i ahve use them before .
