"windows login service service failed the login"

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:\users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

Thanks heaps!

check the Allow logon locally policy in that machine.

U can find that policy by typing secpol.msc in run, and navigate to local policies, user right assignment. Double click on that policy and add the username in it. have a try :)

Let us know the result :)

Hi,

I have had a look at this, but this seems to be for the main admin and that no one can log on. I can log on fine, it's just if i create a new user the new user can't log on.

As for the log on locally thing, that didn't work. I would say that the reason the new accounts I make won't log on is because there is no user for the new account in c:\users. For some reason when I create the new user it doesn't create a user profile. Hence the error.

Thanks for your replies!

Yes, I tried this which had no effect. I still think the issue is that the user account is not found in c/users/

At the time of first login the folders will be created in c:\users. If you are not logged in once the folder will not be created. You are not still logged into the system with that user account, so no profile folder will be there.

what is the exact error message you are getting while attemting to login?

You might see if you are able to boot into Safe Mode as the built-in Administrator in STEP ONE of the tutorial to see if you can continue with the steps. If not, then you might try a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before this error.

I tried making an account through safe mode to no avail.

However,
I found an article on the net somewhere and when into "local users and groups", got the user account I created, it was a member of the "users" group, so I changed it to "administrators" and it logged in fine. So now when I create a user account through the control panel, it will work if i make the account an administrator, however if i make it a "user" then it won't work. Returns the error: " the windows login service service failed the login. The user profile could not be loaded".

SO the error must be something to do with the "users" group?

Thanks!

Check that the users group is having read permission for entire c drive, and make the child object of c drive inherit permission from parrent.

Can u post a screenshot of your allow logon locally policy properties.

I right clicked the c drive and under security, it has "permissions for users" and for the "users group" it has allow for everything (including read) except for "special permissions".

Here's the screen shot:

What is the login id you are having problem with, and upload the security.evtx file if possible.

I did the instructions for a "clean boot" and the same error still appears. I have allready tried safe mode and the same error appears. I'm assuming that the error is something to do with the "users" group. ?

Thanks!

Follow these steps,

Create a standard user name temp, and try to login pls upload the security.evtx. do not add that user to administrator group.

Because i'm confused, on seeing your logs....
