PSU enough?

Hi, I visit this forum often and have solved many of my problems looking at posts here. I have never posted here before and registered here only today. The reason being all of my earlier problems have been posted alredy by someone else and solved. I have always found solutions, mostly a Google search leads me here.

But now i have a problem which is common but with certain specific aspects. Here it is:

I have an Enterage Power3 400W PSU, it is a company from India and i dont think it is very reputed.

and the following config:
ASUS M2N-MX SE
AMD Athlon X2 64 4800+
2x2GB DDR2 667MHz Corsair
Sony DVD RW
Segate 160GB SATA
WD 500GB SATA
BIG GeForce 8600GT

and something more that matters for the PSU
1xCPU fan, 1xGPU fan (obvious)
4x Chasis fans
USB mouse
PS2 keyboard
Other USB devices on remaining 7 ports
Vista Home premium 32 bit SP2

I have problems with my registry going corrupt every 7-8 days, pc freezing, slowing down, BSOD, unexpected shutdowns etc.

The rig is about 2 years old, and i had only the 160gb hdd then with xp and was rarely used. i installed vista mid september and had these corruption problems and had to reinstall vista a few times. so i thought ther's something wrong with the hdd so i added the 500GB and put vista on it. but the same problems seem to be occuring.

I read on a forum that the PSU may not be enough. Please advice me on this matter.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have not checked for a virus.

But the fact is, every time this registry problem came i used a fully formated HDD, with a fresh vista install, and these problems start showing even before i use the internet. So i dont see where the virus can come from.

Any way i will run a full system scan. I use AntiVir Personal. Hope thats enough.

But please do tell me whether the PSU is sufficient for my rig. I can give you more details that are written on the PSU if simply "400W" is not enough.

hm..... try for viruses first, then if that is a fail then we will move to the psu, and after that..... it could be other hardware that is causing it

It does sound like your psu could be higher, but that's not your problem.
I have some homework for you...
After virus check, run malwarebytes.
Then run memtest86+
Make sure you have the latest drivers and bios
Check device driver for problems.
Check windows log for errors.
Upload dump files to this site.
That should be good for starters.

Sorry for the late reply, my time zone is almost 12 hours different from most of you guys and i took about 6 hours trying the things below.

As you suggested i ran AntiVir. When it reached 25% of the "Hidden objects scan" (the first stage), the pc hung. After a few minutes it restarted and i got the "did not shut down properly" screen and i chose normal start. When it booted to the desktop i got a "recovered from unexpected shutdown" dialogue. This was what was given under problem details:

Problem signature:

Microsoft Online Crash Analysis

I have uploaded the 3 minidumps in the C:\Windows\Minidump\ folder. I could not locate the other two files in the specified location, possibly because i restarted a few times before i looked for it. I looked for it only after i did the 2 things below while the Malwarebytes scan was running.

I scheduled a disk check and restarted, chkdsk ran, it restarted automaticaly.
Updated AntiVir, ran the scan, it completed successfuly and had no detections.

Downloaded Malwarebytes free edition, updated it, did a "full scan". No malicious items detected.

I have run the windows memory diagnostics tool before and it found no problems.
Tried a lot to use Memtest86+ but couldnt figure out how to use it. Went to the forum>> Easy Memtest Boot USB Flash guide!!! - Canardpc.com >> Test if your system is capable of booting from a USB Device | USB Pen Drive Linux .
I get stuck at the second step ie. makeboot.bat. It says:

Accessing physical drive: Access is denied.
Did not successfully update the MBR; continuing...
~~~~~~~~ Congratulations ~~~~~~~
The hidden file ldlinux.sys has been installed
Your H: drive should now be bootable.
Press any key to exit this window!
Checked and i think i have all the latest drivers.
About the BIOS, there is an update on the ASUS website but when i download and run it the updater stops because "the model of the BIOS image doesn't match the BIOS ROM currently present."
BIOS ROM model is M2N-MX, BIOS image model is M2N-MX(SE). My motherboard is SE and i choose M2N-MX SE from the product list on the ASUS site.
How do i "Check device driver for problems, Check windows log for errors, Upload dump files to this site." Sorry i dont really know to do those last three things.
So far 3 successes and 5 failures.
The problem is with nvstor.sys. Try running Chkdsk c: /F /R with an elevated command prompt.
I did that, it scheduled a check. It did the check when i restarted. Should that solve the problem? Even if does, why did "nvstor.sys" have a problem, even when its a fresh install? Is there a more serious problem that i have to look into? Thank you for you help.
now im have more problems, when ever i play a game like CS Source, NFS UC, etc its like one half of the screen is lagging in changing the frame.
The game itself runs smooth. Eg: in CS when i turn, its like the the top turns but the bottom catches up a few ms later. It is the same even when the game is set to run in the lowest grafix settings.
When i take a screenshot it does not show the problem, i will upload a photo from a camera later.
The heart of some of the strangest problems, is often a result of a cheap PSU. If you can, try your system with a higher quality PSU such as an Antec, Enermax, etc.
Thank all of you for your help. My PC hasnt shown any problems for a few days now. I hope that lasts. Still havnt figured out what was wrong in the first place. Thnx again.
Ok, im back with a problem. Maybe because of some registry problem. Things go under the taskbar. I'll explain....
1> When i have done a lot of searches with the Google toolbar in IE and i want to clear the search history, the clear history button goes below the taskbar.
2> When a program shows something in the notification area part of it is behind the taskbar. The notification dialogue's base starts at the bottom of the screen instead of the top of the taskbar. Not all programs seem to be affected.
But windows stuff, ie. volume, network, do not have the problem.
I have included a screenshot showing the problem and showing how it is behind the taskbar using the auto-hide option.
Should i be posting this here or start a new topic?
