Standalone Vista DVD

I have an HP Pavillion DV2828ca laptop and I've got a virus. I need to reformat it. I am aware that I can use my recovery partition (Whoops-was that the delete button I just pressed?), I know that I can call hp and get them to ship me a disk. But they give me bloatware, and their disk doesn't format and install, it just deletes and re installs it so Big V is still there. I have a valid Vista Home P. License and I don't want and can't afford a new one, so if anyone knows where to get a standalone vista disk, that would be great. Thanks.

Hi WirelessMouse

Can you get to the screen shot below?

1) If yes, go to Command Prompt. type format C: then press enter. then finish exit.

2) go to recovery & reinstall.

I don't have a dvd. The first post said: "so if anyone knows where to get a standalone vista disk, that would be great." I need a disk so I can format and reinstall it. But I have a license and don't want to walk into Staples and buy a disk with a license for $250

A) Can't find one, Read first post
B) Don't want/need new license that comes with all the disks, Read first post
C) Don't want hp's crap on their disks, Read first post

Not to be rude, but if you don't know where to get a standalone disk, which I know you can somewhere, don't post.

Unless you want to risk downloading an infected copy, wait for Windows 7, if not, try and get someone with a Vista dvd to image a copy or buy an OEM version with a cheap hard drive, for around half-price as its OEM.

Thanks frostmourne, I'll probably just wait the 9 days till 7 comes out. Microsoft changed the EULA so you have to buy a full tower before you can get an OEM. I am starting to dislike Microsoft now.

Tower case? That's a natural choice if you use 7 for games and only for games. I'm keeping a decent but now obsolete (9600GT) mid tower with Vista now for games, and I may or may not upgrade it to 7, and building an Armor+ super tower for games. Bets of both worlds.
