Print Screen

Howard Kaikow

Vista Pro
Seems that I can no longer use PRTSCN key.

Are there known issues?
For example, particular software interfering with the key's use?

Is there a way to reset the keyboard?

I believe that I was able to use the key a while back,

Print screen should work. As a temp work around there is a built in snipping tool in vista. Just type snipping tool in search.
If you want to try and diaxnose what the problem with PRTSCR is let us know

You didn't say for sure if it doesn't work or if maybe you just forgot how to use it. In case it is the latter, here are the instructions:

1. Regular Keyboard. To capture just the window you have open, click "Alt" and "Prt Scrn" buttons together. (Use "Prt Scrn" alone if you want to capture the entire screen instead of just the active window.

**note** if you are using a notebook or laptop, you have to hold the "Fn" button down as well as the other one or two buttons mentioned above.

2. Click the "Start" Orb (bottom left of your entire screen on "Vista"

3. Type in "Paint"

4. Hit "enter".. this will open "Paint"

5. In "Paint", click "Edit", then click "Paste" There, your captured screen is now in paint ready for editing.

6. Click the "select" button (rectangular button) near top left of your paint program and use your cursor to draw a box around the portion of your picture you want to save.

7. Click "edit" again, then click "crop".

8. Now you have a picture of exactly what you needed.

9. Now click "File", then click "save" or "save as" and save this "picture" anywhere you can remember to find it later.

Thanx.

I didn't forget how to use it.
I just did not know that I also had to use fn button.
Where is that "documented"?
Do not see fn in the index of Windows Vista Inside Out book.

Thanx.
Snipper works.
Snipper tool is not even included in the index of Windows Vista Inside Out.
How does one find out about such tools?

To be honest I didnt know about it till I came here. With as many users as we have the obscure things are bound to be figured out. Another gem is the screen recorder which can be used to record the steps to recreate a problem. Just type recorder in search.

On another note there are so many good tutorials that its a good place to spend some idle time

The HP Touchpad and Keyboard manual states:

Hotkeys are combinations of the fn key (1) and either the esc key (2) or one of the function keys (3).

The HP Notebook Tour manual states:

6) Function keys Execute frequently used system functions when pressed in combination with the fn key.

I guess that it is too hard for HP to explicitly document the keys.
