Memory Maxing Out

I have 6gigs of DDR3 memory at 1600hz. Running on Vista 64bit and every now and again my memory performance just maxes out. The problem can occur around the time when I am installing something but I dont think its always this way. I have read forums where it could be the hardrives performing self diagnostics. I have all the latest patches for vista. My specs are listed below.

Evga X58 motherboard
intel i7 920 2.66Ghz
6gigs DDR3 (1600)
Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX/GTX+ 512mb

its the cache. When your computer is at idle (<10%) vista will put more and more memory in cache. your total is 6134, cached 5248, free 25. This is a good thing. It means when you go to do something vista has everything it can in memory which is tons faster than having to read it from disk.



edit: page file and cache are very different. SNIP IS INCORECT

Alright I can understand that. Yet, everytime I am installing an application and the memory cache is way up I am not able to multitask. If I try to access anything else the computer will run incrediably slow. I think to myself, with 6gigs and installing one program, how can my system run extremely slow.?

OK why d ont you go into sytem control panel and see how it is currently configured. When I was looking at your task manager I noticed that svchost.exe, and IE were using abt 150Mb eaxh.

Let me know what the oage file is set at, and we can worry this till we find out what is causing it

edit: Lastaut, my apologies I combined two thread I am woring. Dont bother going in to the PAGE file in the sytem control panel. Page file and cache are very different. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok Just gotback from beating my head into a wall. Its is cache. Since you say that it slows way down when you are installing, or multitasking, can you leave task manager open when you try to do something taht usually gives you the slowdown. Snip and upload

I will try but when I start an installation it takes about 7 min for the task manager to popup after pressing control alt delete. What tab on the task manager did u want to see?

dont bother lets just get started with trying to figure out whats happening.

type event viewer in search. go to the windows log>application tab. Look for errors Ithey have red in the left hand column) are there alot? what are the event ID of the most frequent? whats the source code for the most frequent
