Hi, I'm new to the forum...
Think I messed up my bootblock or something yesterday when I tried to re-partition my hardrive. All I get now is a black screen and the hardrive seems to be running constantly. I removed the CMOS battery over night and plugged it back in but still have the black screen. Can't get into CMOS and can't get into F8 boot screen, (have a Acronis backup of drive on external drive) but can't get into anything but the black screen. Please help!!

p.s. I'm using my laptop to get online looking for help...

hello am new to this myself, but had same black screen as yourself for few days after crash,,i have since had a bit of joy by inserting my operating system dvd ,restarting computer and pressing f12 repeatedly which took me to menu with option to boot from cd drive, which i did ,it looks like it is restalling windows but at least am up and running (can confirm it has worked, and installed a new windows file and all my original files are stored in folder marked old windows files) but at least i am operational again.

hope this helps

hello...if you dont have restall disc you could try switching computer off then restart it.... when logo comes up (mine is dell) repeatedly tap the f8 key it will take you to a menu with option to system restore /repair my computer (try this first )it may work (didnt for me i had to factory set) if that fails you will need to use option for factory restore as this will most likely have windows on your d partion beware if you use factory set as this will lose all your files/data /programs... and take it back to when you first bought computer....hope this helps let me know how you got on.
