Windows Genuine Advantage Failure

Good evening,

I just recently repaired my Vista system (power went out throughout update process, failed to configure updates) and when I logged on, Windows was telling me that I was a victim of software counterfeiting. Which is odd, seeing as my eMachines D620 (Canada) came with Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit OEM. I went to Microsoft and followed their instructions and they said my version checked out, and it was all good. So I double checked the license key on my system and rebooted. When I logged back on again, the notification was still in the right hand bottom corner and I am baffled as to why Microsoft likes to pick on people.

Let's be clear, this version came with my PC and is made for this model only. I cannot fathom why they think this is an invalid version, but oh well.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
S. Smith

Hi there, Welcome to Vista Forums.
As you say that its an OEM PC, you can call up your PC manufacturer and discuss this issue with them. They might give you a new copy of Vista.

Hello moldylordvoldy,
Check the day/date of your machine, also, try re-registering your OS.
Good luck and post your results.

THanks you two,

I tried re-registering and it said thank you for using Genuine Microsoft etc etc. But the label has not yet been removed. I'll call up eMachines and see what they have to say.

I'll post my results when it's solved.

Thanks,
S. Smith.
