Login "Password Incorrect"

Mharse

New Member
I am recently getting a "Incorrect Password" message when trying to login. I am administrator with a password. My husband (standard user with password) is having the same problem. In addition, a box with "Ease of Access" options pops up while I am in the middle of typing my password. This problem does not happen with my husband. The only way we can log in is to do so as our daughter first (She has no password), then "switch user." At this point, it will finally let us log in. Thanks for any ideas.

Hello Mharse, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Do you have the computer set to log on automatically to a user account. If so, then check to make sure that the password is correct by re-entering it.

If not, then you might see if changing the password for the account after you are able to log on to it may allow you to log on to normally again.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Is the keyboard layout correct? For example, when you set up your PC, you used the En-US layout and subsequently changed it to the En-UK one. If that is the case, some of the key locations change.

Mharse,
When you finally are able to log onto your profile, do a malware (virus is the more common term) scan with MalwareBytes. It is an extremly useful scanner. It sounds like you could be infected. There are always ways around infections and the switch user feature is the way you can get around it.

Yes, there may be no other warning signs that you are infected, but to me it sounds like you are....

Let us know,
Ben

I dont think that this is a keyboard issue because there is still a way that she can correctly log in.
Mharse,
Do you have any system restore points available since before this started to happen?

Try starting up in safe mode, hoping your account isn't the "administrator" account, when you get to safe mode, click on the "administrator" account, or even your account and try it, then try disabling the password then restart and try logging in again.

My Computer

It happened to me a few times too. Problem was that the numeric lock was on and some letters from the right side of the keyboard were entered as numbers. But since you cannot see what you enter with passwords, it took me a while to figure that one out.

Thanks for the link to system restore instructions. I did the system restore, using a date before the problem started, but I am still getting the "incorrect password" message.

Brink,
I think I may have found the problem. I believe the password problem started right after I installed the driver for my Logitech webcam and used it for the first time. So I uninstalled it, and was able to log in to both my account and my husband's with no problem! Does this sound possible? Should I try re-installing it, or what next?

My Computer

Mharse,

I'm happy to hear that you found the source of the problem. Strange, I would not have thought that would have caused this. I would recommend that you create a restore point before trying to reinstall the webcam driver. This way you could easily do a system restore at boot using that restore point to easiy undo it if needed.

Mharse,
So glad to hear that this was successful, and you found the problem. If i may suggest, go online to logitec and locate the driver for your webcam. Download it from there and install it that way. It could be updated or they could have fixed a problem that caused your problem to happen.

Let us know how everything goes,
Ben
