Computer turns off by itself in safe mode

Whenever I go into safe mode or run the memory diagnostic, after a few minutes it just turns off by itself. When I go to normal mode it works fine (as in I can have it on for as long as I want and it doesn't turn off). I don't know why it keeps turning off in safe mode.

Open up a elevated command prompt [right click run as admin] > accept the UAC prompt > type sfc /scannow > hit enter > let it finish when its done and you can type run this command > findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > C:\%userprofile%\desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Upload that file here by clicking the little paper clip icon next the text color selector. After that we can further assist you.

That's odd. Normally it would be the other way around.

What prompted you to use safe mode to begin with?

I realize this is an old thread, but I have a friend with the same problem [and for what it's worth, the same specs with a possible exception of Vista Home Prem x64] as Real Decimic has. here's how he described it:

When I get to the desktop, Explorer/Vista won't do anything and freeze, giving me the option to end the process on Explorer... It loads up fine in Safe Mode. I'm frakkin confused.
and
Just found a new problem. In Safe Mode it shuts itself off after a certain amount of time. Do you know if that's natural or if that's also a part of my problems?
I'm thinking he may have to reinstall Vista from scratch, or to upgrade to Win7, but I want to be sure this is an isolated problem before advising him to do so....

He's been using AVG Free Anti-virus, which hasn't detected anything unusual.

is there any info on this?

Real Decimic: Open up your laptop and blow out your cooling fan! You probably have a thick clump of dust blocking the airflow. Hope this helps! Worked for my friend!

Now if we can get vista to run properly again.....
