Vista hard disk thrash? Fixed!

Newbie. 1st post.

I came to this Forum looking for help re the above.

I installed Vista Business 32 bit for the first time, all went very well. I had shied away from Vista as I wasn't prepared to pay the high price when my W2k was running Ok. However, I came across a very nice ( read naive ) German person selling rather a large amount of Vista Business 32 bit on Ebay, ( turned out to be HP UK version ). He had kindly listed 30 plus Vista all with the starting bid of 1 penny. I along with several others got into him and bought for under £13.00. ( I got one for £5.00 and the other for £10 ). After this he altered the price .
The install and verification went perfect, I then installed SP2 and the mountain of Updates. Then I got the Hard disk thrash about one minute after the desktop appeared, which kept thrashing for seven minutes, at which time it ceased and from then on never made a sound.
I tramped around the forums and got no joy until I came across this forum. I had tried all the things like disabling prefetch, Superfetch and Indexing etc , but no joy.
The prob was I couldn't see into which scvhost.exe was giving me the prob.
One of the threads here gave the tip on how to see under the exe and that got the prob fixed.
The fix was to disable BOTH Superfetch and Readyboost. No more thrashing.
The tip: When in the Taskmanager, click on Show users for all . Then R/click on the svchost.exe that was showing usage. Then select Go to Services.
The Services running under that exe will be blocked over in Blue.
Then just start working your way through to finding which one(s) to disable.
