Vista64 doesn't recognize FAT32 USB drives

Hi all,

I'm having a strange problem. My Vista Ultimate x64 all of a sudden can't recognize FAT32 USB drives. I have tried 4 different drives which work on other PCs and a PS3. Every time I get "You need to format the disk in drive X: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?". And if I do select Continue, and then select either regular format for Quick Format it will appear to be trying but at the end always fail with error "Windows was unable to complete the format". However if I insert a NTFS USB drive it works fine. And yes FAT32 was working at the beginning, and I didn't install any suspicious programs. I have only been doing the regular Windows updates.

I've been searching around but have yet to find anything helpful. Your input will be greatly appreciated!!

Im trying to backup a ps3 too. My first backup attempt is driving me mad. My ps3 wont recognise the hdd and im told it needs to be formatted to FAT32. I dont even know how to do that. I cant see an option to do it. Im missing something somewhere. Its beyond me why a games machine which should be plug and play should be so complicated to backup? Sorry this doesnt answer your question but hopefully someone with give a few pointers

an update on this:

Since a few weeks ago this problem is gone! i haven't done anything that might have fixed it. So it has to be Windows Update that did the "magic"!

well at least they noticed...

cheers to all..
