    Hi, is it ok to disable the superfetch in vista?,and will it make any difference to the system?,just that I keep getting error messages saying that it has stopped working,when browsing within firefox, so I might disable it??,any ideas?, I checked the error reports, but nothing helps.Thanks Rip

    Rip,
    I disabled it as soon as I got my machine. The disk clatter drove me crazy. You may see some performance degradation on start up depending on hardware and working set. I never did see any,

    You will also free some memory, that is used by superfetch. Let us know how your performance is after you disable.

    Hello Riptorn,

    Superfetch in Vista is not like how it was in XP. Usually you will have better performance with it enabled instead depending on how you use your computer. It keeps what it thinks you needs next in memory to make loading it faster. If you don't need it, then it will just dump it from memory when it needs the space. It also learns your patterns to make it more accurate as well.

    Try it both ways for a few days to see which is better for you though. Please let us know how it turned out for you.
