Most Frequently Used List Items in the Start Menu Do Not Run

I have started to experience the following issue suddenly: clicking on an item (normally it is an application) found in the most frequently used programs list found above the Start menu (when Start is pressed) does not run/launch it.
If I click on the same item found in the expanded All Programs list it does start.
My items look like here http://trumpink.lt/78
Besides, the same happens for all user accounts.
Any ideas what could remedy that?

Hi richc46,
thank you for the reply.
I am not sure why it makes sense to turn it off then on, in other words, what is the logic behind doing this?
And if it will not work say after-tomorrow again, then what?
Does that mean I need to turn it off and on and boot till the rest of the PC days ?
I think I need a permanent fix.

No Arthur,

You will not have to turn it on and off, always.

I am trying to see if restarting, in this way corrects the problem.

If it does not then we use stronger medicine. I am trying to treat you the same as I would treat myself. Start with the easy things first.

I will try this and report back. Thanks.
Besides, it is interesting to know why such a simplistic functionality can become corrupted.

Its a computer, it does not take much for the program to become corrupt. Perhaps during boot a slight power fluctuation, an improper shutdown, a conflicting program that you installed.

If my suggestion does not work, we try the next easiest solution. Go back 2 days before the problem started and do a system restore. I am pretty sure that will work.

Welcome ArthurZ

Try this Turn the feature off, boot up and turn it on again.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72816-recent-items-list.html

It did not work.
I tried as suggested to disable it and reboot then re-enabled the setting. Needed to start several apps directly to have the menu re-populated with those I ran and then they [the programs] would not start as it used to be the case.
Besides, I am running Vista not under the Admin rights, I guess this is the culprit.

It`s doing it with all the Microsoft Office apps. and Adobe Reader, but they run fine in the 32 bit system. I`m only having the problem with the 64bit OS. Seems a lot of others are having the issue too.

They are also working fine if you pin them to the taskbar, (quick launch) I say taskbar because I have spread out the icons there.

I know, mine`s been fine for ages and this just started. So I did a search and found many posts about it.

If it just started for some it somehow is related to an update. Good to know.
