If XP was installed 1st this will be messy at best...
I'd consider backing up what you need and doing a clean install...

This is going to cause you all sorts of problems... XP is a 10 year old OS, it is obsolete. You should be going forwards instead of backwards.

Windows Vista is actually 3x as stable and 5x as secure as XP straight out of the box. Vista with SP2 runs as fast as, IF not QUICKER than XP SP3. Benchmarks don't lie, and neither does any of the software that is going to be released in the next 5 years, which is going to be hard-coded to only run on Vista or higher.

The issue is that the way programs interact with the Kernel has changed drastically from XP to Vista, and slightly with Windows Seven. Compatibility may not be an issue yet, but it will be.

Think about it.

well i do not have any problems with vista i;m just abit too messy about the ram usage thing (although my vista hardly gets slow).i've got 2 gb ram & i guess that sounds okay for vista.i've thought about it and i guess i;ll stick to vista until my brother has to give a clean install for XP.or i;ll tell him myself to install XP only after a few days time.by the way does Dual booting or Triple booting harm the pc in any way?

My Computer

No Dual booting does not cause any problems. I am very happy with just Windows 7. Many other members, however, do dual boot and a few triple boot.

well thanks for the reply but i do not have administrative rights and i do not have "profile list" thingy in my registry.well i guess ill have to reinstall again?i'm afraid of doing a back up all i feel is it messes up more and the computer does not respond properly what do you think is better? p.s i don't mind reinstalling

My Computer

If you do not mind doing a clean reinstall, that may be best. You seem to be having a lot of various problems. Start fresh and you will have a brand new OS.
