Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

Hello all,

I hope someone can help me further as I've pretty much exhausted all my knowledge and ideas I've managed to google up.

I awoke one morning to the dreaded BSOD, reboted the computer only to get the title message of 'Boot disk failure'.

I tried a repair of mbr to no avail, when I go into the command prompt option I can not enter c:\, only my other HDDs, I have disconected all other drives and still have the same issues.

I checked the BIOS, the settings are CD ROM then my primary HDD, the bios registers the HDD as being present so it must be getting ower and connectivity to the motherboard has been checked and re-checked.

The one thing I have not doen and am loathed to do is see if my system can find the disk for a reformat and re-install. is this my only option left or is this not possible either due to a screwed HDD? If it's my only hope then I'll try this before arranging an RMA with Western Digital.

I look forward to your assistance.

Hate to say it but it sounds like a dead HD. It cant hurt to try and format it but I suspect that will also fail.
