Everything wiped from computer

I hope this post is in the right discussion. This morning my computer froze so I shut it down to restart. Upon restart, everything was gone (music, documents, pictures). My control panel is also showing empty. Its like it restored itself to factory defaults. Help! Is there anyway to get all my stuff back? oh and my computer is a Dell Inspiron 1501 (if that matters). Thanks!

from the start orb navigate to all programs\accessories then right clik on command prompt and run as administrator , type into that window sfc /scannow (observe the space) and just let it run then reeboot and see if that's fixed your system files ?

let us know how you get on ?

Thank you for the advice. I tried it and restarted and it did not work. It still goes back to the Vista background and all my stuff is still gone. Thanks again. I appreciate it.

Go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, and click on system restore, restore back to a date before your computer crashed and see if some of your settings and files come back.

I tried the system restore and it says that the OS is corrupt and cannot run system restore. I'm beginning to get a bad feeling about this....thanks for advice. Got anything else?

If you have restore points, but the system recovery does not work for some reason (because usually it does not restore user files), You can use Shadow Explorer to recover your files/folders. Just navigate to C > Users > Your Name > right click on the folder(s) in question and Export back into your system.
For the future, I suggest you move your user data to a seperate data partition. Here is how: Data Partition - Windows 7 Forums

PS: just saw your latest post. If you manage to get at your folders with Shadow Explorer, export them to an external device and reinstall. Then do the data partition part and move your data back into place.
