New HDD - Disk Management and file system issues

I just installed a new Hitachi HDD and restored my disc image to it. My original disk had three partitions, the pqservice partition, the active OS partition (C drive) and a data partition (D drive). But I only chose to restore the OS and the data partitions. Now when I view the new disk via disk management, the labeling of the active partition is unusual; there is no volume name listed nor file system, and the free space is shown as 100%. Also, the status shows an EISA configuration.

However, under explorer properties for the drive, things look a bit different, with the label and system type correct.

What is causing the discrepancy and how to remedy it?

Thanks.

I just now also noticed that I no longer have 4gb of ram... I haven't removed anything, but only 2gb are showing in system properties and in the BIOS???

Right click on the 111 gB partition in Disk Management and select "Change drive letter and paths" and assign it as the C: drive

What does the BIOS say about the memory when you boot up?

When right clicking that partition, there are no options like for the others - just the help menu.

I haven't re-looked at the BIOS, but I believe it listed ram as 2048mb. What else should I check there? Thanks.

Sounds to me like something has happened to your system (such as a power surge?)

Try these free, bootable diagnostics:

That will be an oem partition ID.

Change it back to 0x07 like this:

Rt click the affected partition, select Change partition ID

PARTID-1-2010-06-03_133909.jpg

PARTID-2-2010-06-03_133953.jpg

slect 0x07 ntfs in the drop down , click Yes, click Apply.

If you don't have Paragon ( the best - worth getting ) , the Free Partition Wizard has a similar function.

Strange occurrence - what app. did you use to image and restore the partitions?

I just installed Paragon's Free Partition Wizard but there is no option to change partition ID.

I am now trying to download the Harddisk Manager trial version and see if I can get it from there. I used macrium free to create and restore the disk image.

Today I had a few ntldr is missing errors at startup and could not get past post.

It's not in the FREE Paragon partition Manager, unfortunately. It is in the paid editions.

However it is in MT solutions FREE Partition Wizard

FREE Partition Wizard

Two completely different companies and programs.

I really like the Partition Wizard Free Home Edition - thanks.

When I try to change the partition type ID, I noticed that the Current System ID is "0x27" NTFS. As the OS is on this partition, I am not sure if changing it to 0x07 NTFS will cause any problems. I guess I am not really sure of the implications of altering the disk and partition info this way. Can you clarify what changes here would accomplish and if there is any risk in damaging the operation of Vista? Thanks.

I tried changing it to 0x07 NTFS but it didn't take effect ultimately. The partition is still showing the same behavior. Using disk part, I see that the partition is still listed as an OEM partition.

How can I remove the eisa configuration on this OEM partition?

I had a similar problem.

I installed Partition Wizard home edition. I deleted both partitions where I could not assing a drive letter. I then created a new partition, assigned letter N and all is well. Disk is visible in Vista under drive letter N.
