Pop up dialog box taking control of active program

How to stop a program from taking priority from an active window? If I'm typing something in word, and I have something running in the background, say a program installing or something downloading, suddenly a dialog box pops up infront of my document in word and I am typing and unwittingly press a key and accept whatever the box was aksing. Very frustrating. How to stop this crap from happening?

Either change the settings in the program that's popping up - or get rid of it. That sort of behavior is unacceptable in well-behaved software.

But I think it is a Vista thing, in that it happens across a variety of programs in different scenarios. Most recently, I was downloading a file from the internet and while it was beginning to dL, I went back to my document, then while typing I noticed a screen pop up really quickly but I must have accepted I by typing a key. I realized that the dialog box was asking to save or run the programi was dL.

One thing you could do is set a sound for such pop-ups ... this is just an example

Is there any help from anyone on how to stop spontaneous popping up of "Spelling and Grammar: English(United States)" dialog box. Whenever I start typing it automatically select the words from previous pages or what I currnetly type in MS Word/Excel. I have tried all options of checking/unckecking the options withing the same. I have also uninstalled Office 2003 and installed Office 2007, but this crap dialog box still comes in the way of my typing.
