Hello Compuwhiz,

You should be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you change the name to restore it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

If you can get to system restore that will make all good, again.
Try in safe mode if you have to.

Safe Mode requires explorer.exe to be good. If necessary, install disk will have to be used (I think)

What anti virus you are using? If its AVG then its sure that it is deleted by it and you can find the file in reports folder..

I have faced this issue and recovered the file from there..

My Computer

Ok so here is what happened after i came back from ni.
the laptop was on the login page, i entered my password, then a window came saying that the system restore was not complete becz there was not enough harddisk space left, i tried going to control panel to uninstall some stuff but it wudnt open (due to the explorer.exe corruption). so i just click on try again, then again this time after logging it, it says that the restore point was deleted.

now when i try to do a system restore, there no system restore points available earlier than today's date. so i think that system restore is not a solution anymore.

any ideas anyone????
is there way to access the windows folder without using explorer.exe
Eagerly waiting for replies since the laptop has really important stuff on it
