Solved Printer Not Responding

When trying to print test page I get "Printer Not Responding" with my Canon Pixma MX340. All other computers on the wireless network set up fine and all print.

This is not a new issue to my computer. My previous printer was a wireless HP 7200 and it quit printing about 3 weeks ago. I had a Vista update auto install and my computer wouldn't work. I had to restore to an earlier date. Since then the printer doesn't respond.

I've reinstalled the drivers directly from the Canon site.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome
Go to devices and printers (possibly device manger in Vista) and make sure that there are no yellow markers by printer driver. Make sure that the printer is recognized aand that drivers are installed.

If they are not download the proper driver from the website. Download to your desktop
Turn off internet, unattach the printer. Do not attach until told to do so
Then reboot and it should work
Be sure that you are using the corrrect driver and it is the most up to date.
Go to the vista compatibilty center and make sure that your printer is comptible with Vista.
Be sure that you have all the Vista SP2s, 2.
Try installing the way shown here if my method does not work

When I first checked, the printer driver was not in Device Manager. I installed using Canon CD and driver showed up. Followed steps above to not be connected to network during install until was requested. Still have same issue with printer not responding.

I have set up 2 other laptops with Vista and they are working. One using Canon website driver and one with CD driver.

I am convinced it is Vista related and not software install. I have now installed the printer about 10 times using different methods...Including the one from EHow.com.

Any other ideas are appreciated.

Are you sure that the driver on the CD is the correct one for Vista and the platform that you are on (32 or 64)?

The CD should tell you the applicable software that can be used.

Hi cyclonebax,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Besides drivers, your printer may also need software to be configured properly. All the available options for your specific model of printer are at: Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : PIXMA MX340.

There are several manuals for your specific model of printer that may be useful:

mx340sosmwin130us.exe
MX340 series On-screen Manual (Windows 7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP/XP x64/2000)

MX340_NST_EN-US_V1.pdf
MX340 series Network Setup Troubleshooting

MX340_GS_EN-US_V1.pdf
MX340 series Getting Started

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi cyclonebax,

I'm just guessing here, but is your Print Spooler Service turned on?
Computer Management --> Services --> Print Spooler; be sure it is set to "Automatic" via "Properties" and if its turned off you can Start it there.

Thanks Carlo. Spool server was turned on, but McAfee was blocking spoolsv.exe.

Post can be marked as solved.

I love Belgium and was in Brugge in December for an afternoon. What wonderful country

I have an ongoing similar problem with my Epson RX685 There are several minutes delay before printing starts and sometimes I get a warning of unresponsive script. This problem started months ago although the printer is the same and was working normally before. I have been in touch with Epson several times and tried all sorts to resolve it appears the printer is OK. What I have noticed is the main delay is when 'sending' instruction from PC when it eventually prints it is fine and the problem originates from PC. It was recently suggested to me that Epson creates an audit file ?(EPAUDF01) and that I use Vista resource monitor to identify the problem and delete the file. My searches have found no such file and I am desperate to get to the bottom of it. ANY help would be much appreciated

Hi wendylg

I think its better for you if you go to the General Discussion part of the forum and post a new thread, because this is marked as solved and the change of a forum moderator finding your problem is reduced because of that.

Try to enclude all the steps you've done so far, and be as precise as possible when identifying your issue.
