Loud noises and high temperatures!

My computer is driving me crazy...it doesn't make sense, when there is no application running, it is using so much memory, and the core temperature ranges from 80-95 degrees Celsius, and the highest its gone is over 100, when I was doing absolutely nothing to it.

When I try to put it to sleep, it won't go to sleep, the monitor gets ready for sleep, but the computer is like full blown using so much and making SO MUCH NOISE, that it stops itself from going to sleep and stays on. When I start using programs and stuff like photoshop, sometimes it calms down to 30-50 degrees C, it just doesn't make sense to me. (or maybe it could be that whatever devil that is causing this stops when I happen to be using programs).

I have an HP windows vista 32 bit home, AMD athalon 64 X2 dual processor 4400 + 2.30 GHz
1918 MB of RAM

and when I open my task manager, it is using 83 processes, CPU usage is around 60%, Physical memory: 55% (and right now the only thing I am using is google chrome) I just closed everything and checked, and it went down to 80 processes, and the same amount of usage and memory.

Usually the most memory guzzling process is my cheap little anti-virus program using around 52, 652 K of memory (I don't know if that's a lot? the google chrome is using slightly less than that, so I doubt it)...and Host process for windows services which leads to a bunch of crap that I don't understand. This is absolutely ridiculous, Vista is evil. Do I have a virus or something?

As I am writing and preparing this question, suddenly the core temp dropped from over 90 degrees to just over 40, and the noise stopped, however on processes it is using 80 (a few less than what it was before, so something stopped), and the highest memory using processes like my anti-virus program is still the same...so I'm not sure what that thing is? PLEASE HELP, this happens 90% of the time it is so annoying and stressful because of the noise.

First run a full updated anti virus scan
Second download and run a full updated scan with malwarebytes.
If positive post
If negative, ASAP follow these intructions for overheating which is a major enemy of your computer.

Test in clean boot mode and see if the problem persists
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Bring up the task manager and check out what is using the CPU and Memory. Post a screen shot if you dont have expertise in this area.

I think that you will get the answer with the Malwarebytes and Anti Virus scan.
The loud noise can be the fan.

You have a rogue process.

Have you tried sorting the processes by % usage?

Also ensure you click show process by all users.

Ironically, after I posted this thread, the computer died down for a while, someone suggested to disable the index search process...so I did that, and I thought it probably worked a little...but of course it didn't because that is not the problem...because right now it's going crazy, I just turned on my computer and the internet wasn't even connected, and the temperature/fan is going insane...It gives me an anxiety attack sometimes.

It is the fan, my cousin is a computer tech and one time he came and opened up the unit and vaccummed it, and it was OK for a while, but I think it probably collected more dust since then.

I will do what you've suggested and post back. The CPU usage ranges from 50-65% right now, while the temp is high and the fan is going crazy. I'm the only user...and it's already clicked =)

Ahh, while I was typing this message, it suddenly shot down to 48-55 degrees...and the fan sounds like its off. What is going on? Do you have any idea what it could be while I go and do all of those things?...I just bought a brand new Wacom Tablet and I don't even want to leave it plugged in or use it on this terrible computer  !!!

If it was just high temp, i'd think your hsf is shot... But youre having high cpu cycles which are raising temps.

You need to find whats running and get that stopped first.

I have in my computer most everything you noted. Noisy Fans produce vibrations and can & will cause computer slow up and even crash due to vibrations. Try tapping your van or even pressing on it. This well usually stop noise and vibration. Your temp. should run from 70 to 98 degrees, anything in the 120 degrees, you should shut down and fix the problem.
