Small Screen On Startup?

I am trying to help a friend solve a problem on her Toshiba Satellite laptop running Vista 32 bit home premium. When startimg up the screen shows normal for a few seconds and then as the system loads reverts to a desktop in a small window like 600x800 or whatever. After the desktop is resized in the normal way through the personalisation settings to the correct resolution it looks good. However on the next startup the same problem occurs.

Your thoughts would be appreciated on solving this issue.

May I suggest that you go to search by the start button
Type device manager
Make sure that your monitor driver is up to date and does not have any yellow waring posters by it.
Do the same for your graphics driver.

Had the same sorta issue, and a driver update/reinstall fixed it.

I agree with rich on this, it sounds as if some device drivers are missing.
I would suggest updating the GPU and screen drivers or reinstalling them.
You may not get any warnings next to the device drivers if a standard VGA driver has been installed because the computer thinks it has the right ones installed.

Thanks everyone for your help. Will the windows update and Toshipa update take automatically update the graphics card drivers?

Download drivers:

Go here put your computer details in and you will be taken to the driver.
Save it to your computer
Go to Device Manager and up date the driver.
When it asks do you want to go on line or browse your computer click browse and go to the downloaded driver file.
