Solved Toshiba L40 17-M LCD screen turns black in Normal mode

Hi,

I have bought a Toshiba Equium L-40 17-M laptop 3 years ago.

As I turn on the laptop with the adapter. it turns on, as I hear the sound. But the LCD is black. When I disconnect the power (adapter) and use the battery, and press the ON button , the laptop works fine.

I dont know why the laptop does not work in the normal mode, when the adapter (power) is connected?

Although it does work fine in safe-mode, irrespective of whether turned on with the adapter or battery. The laptop is useless if does not work with windows start up in normal mode, when the adapter is plugged in.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Sadiq, welcome to VF, I have came across this issue a few times and the solution may sound a little strange, may I recommend doing a full anti-virus scan just as a precaution.

First of all, unplug the notebook and take out the battery by using the slider underneath, keep the power cord out and hold the power button for around 30 seconds(we are draining the power out of the notebook at this stage), put the battery back in, and plug in the power cord turn it back on and it should *fingers crossed* work normally :)

The reason the screen boots up blank is because there is too much power in the laptop and it's natural reaction is to turn off to save the components from imminent death, doing this drains that extra build up of power and restores it to normal operating parameters.

Dear MrNeeds,

Thanks for the advice. I formatted the computer and re-installed the windows from the recovery disc. I tried what you said. The problem still exists. The laptop works fine in safe-mode or networking-mode. But in normal mode it automatically logs off and the LCD appears Black. When I push the power button the screen appears for 1-2 seconds and then goues black (log offed).

Dont know what to do?

Thanks.
