Solved How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

Almakos

Member
Hey guys,
I want to keep only "Favorite Links" in explorer's navigation pane with "Folders" hidden by default, but seems there is no way. is that so?

Ideally I want all folders to have the same template with "details" view sorted by date, but after finishing all tutorials on this forum I still have stupid "Tiles" if explorer called with "Win+E" combination

Any suggestions?
Thanks

>>>>>Hello t-4-2,
That would remove both of them unfortunately. :(

Thank you for pointing it out.

Just that since the OP wants to hide the folders, I figured .... " why bother to show the navigation pane at all ? ".
Just my silly way of looking at issues.

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

Thank you guys for the tips.

I don't want to hide navpane completely, I just want to keep favorites =)
but the worst trouble is that I am huge fan of running multiple sessions of explorer via Win+E shortcut...
Unfortunately all tweaks I do get nullified no matter of what is I run explorer via this shortcut or RMB on "Start" button and choose "explore"...
I find this to be the main issue
anyway thank you for your support =)

p.s. yes I tried all tutorials related to view options, they work ideally for all folders, except for the "Computer" which is launched by default with Win+E shortcut

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

If you manually set the "Computer" window to be viewed how you like it, then close it, does it open next the same way that it was when last closed?

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

I have run fresh explorer window with Win+E and got pic like on first screen
If I RMB on "Computer" and select "Open" I get result like on second screenshot

So I guess whole trouble is in Win+E hotkey =(

If you open "Computer" with Win+E, set it's view how you like it, then close it. Does it open the way you set it the next time you press Win+E?

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

well, I repeated whole reset folders procedure from tutorial (with registry key), set desired view, applied etc, closed.
and now with win+e computer is in list "view" (in groups though)
but still navpane is with "folders" expanded, which is what I dislike most...

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

I use Brinks first idea but go the other way and only show folders as it is easier to drag and drop.

re: How-to get "Folders" always hidden in navigation pane?

I can get "View" settings remembered with no problem, but nav pane just doesn't want to stay with "folders" collapsed
in fact if I change amount of space taken by "folders" it will remember my tweaks. but if that space is none or close to none (1 string of text visible) then it will reset position all over again...it just doesn't want to stick )))

I've installed one program, which is like dock in mac os and there is a shortcut for explorer which is using some weird path
::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
if I use this path, then explorer window starts with "folders" collapsed, like I closed it

And one more thing which is bothering me...
is there any way to setup custom favorites in some open/save dialog windows? like attached
thanks
