Passwords

I'm generally pretty good with computers but with vista its like a whole new pain in the butt. My mom made a password and lost it and we haven't been able to wipe it with anything, tried hirens and a couple other boot discs, but worse yet when you try to go into the boot menu now it asks for a password. I need to know if there is anyway to brute force format this drive? Because it won't load the login screen and launch repair doesnt work at all. Anyone got any ideas?

Is it the only account enabled? Are there any other Administrator accounts?

If Not then try to Boot into safe mode and then log on as the Administrator that should have appeared if the Above conditions were met

Then you may change the password in Control panel

The Desktop is an Acer Aspire M1640 the reason I cant go to boot menu is because it has a cmos password as well workin on resetting that one so i can format it but first i need to buy a hard drive mount or enclosure and extract all neccessary data.

Its been sitting for a year since the password was implemented on vista, and forgotten I had tried several programs to crack it then while running hirens it frozen i dont think its been able to start up since, and i believe sometime after that it implemented its own cmos password as a security safegaurd or something.

You can already do that task without removing the HDD

Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer - How-To Geek

I am not sure were HDD Corruption has come from but if that is what you want to do then follow the above

crcdisk.sys is the last and biggest Driver that is loaded - How long did you wait for it to load?

As for resetting passwords we cannot offer any more advice due to Law infringements
