Hi, i have bought a new pc & wish to give my old one to my daughter. It is a dell xps 420. I am attempting to reset it to factory settings without sucess. I press f8 on booting, i select repair computer & i get a screen icon saying "other user". When i try to log in with my name & passw. the msg. reads "cannot find domain or link". I have reset my passw., i have checked via f2 to confirm that the admin & system passw feature is diasbled. I can access the the "d" partition, select tools,PCrestore, be warned that my disk will be formatted & i will lose all my data. When i select next the msg. tells me i cannot do this. I was the first one to log onto this computer when it was purchased from dell. I am using Vista Home Premium.

Dave,
I have an XPS420, you Daughter is lucky, its a nice computer. Well that being said, on boot continually hit f8. Do it rapidly and repeatedly.
If that does not work, Dell sent a restore DVD with the computer, use that.
F8 might not work, if you installed another OS, after purchase. I bought mine with Vista. I now have Seven, self installed.
