recently I inserted a flash drive in my desktop computer and immediately I got a pop-up from Norton Anti-virus saying the autorun.inf file is infected (may be there was some virus in the flash drive data) and I think it has deleted the file from C drive. after that the icons for the C drive and other drives are not showing up and also the icons are not displayed for some of the file types (like text files and some other files). I restarted the computer, but the problem still remains. how can I restore this file now and also the missing icons for the drives and the file types? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I tried that already, but the system restore didn't work for some reason. I chose two restore points (there are only two) and both of them failed. Is there any other way to restore this file?

Yes you can try restore in safe mode,I had trouble with restore, as i have norton, comes free with comcast and i was doing system restore in safe mode till i read you have to turn norton tamper protection off, so when i went into norton setting's i unticked all the box's and it worked, If that doesent work you may want to try sfc /scannow to make sure you dont have any corrupt files.
