My Vista install was getting flaky so I thought no prob just reinstall. Now my Vista(which I paid for by the way) is treating me like a criminal telling I'm not genuine.
words can't describe how upset I am.

Welcome
If you bought the OS, at a location like EBAY or online or at a less than well known dealer, your copy may not be genuine.
The best thing to do is activate by phone. If the number is not valid a person will come on the line, explain to hime. In certain circumstances Microsoft will allow you to activate as a good will gesture.
Activation by phone is the same For Seven as is for Vista

I bought at Newegg.com, I tried activating by phone but I think it doesn't work for people who aren't found to be genuine.
"In certain circumstances Microsoft will allow you to activate as a good will gesture"
isn't that big of them..... please note sarcasm
Do you know of a number I can call and let them know how I feel.

Try calling MS back explain your situation and if they won't work with you ask for a supervisor/manager. Since technically you don't qualify to buy an OEM copy (you have to be a system builder to qualify) they might not help you.

If still nothing call newegg and explain the situation and ask for a replacement or refund. Don't use their automated system because it will charge you a 15% restocking fee for a refund and regardless of whether or not you ask for a refund or replacement you'll have to pay for shipping back to newegg. If you call Newegg the people there will be able to waive the 15% restocking fee and provide you with a prepaid shipping label. They did so for me when I got a defective model and wanted to switch to another one.

I would to call MS but I need a phone # somehow I doubt the cowards have one. I don't think there's anything un-genuine about it, It installed just fine the first time around. I suspect they have some policy regarding OEM software that it's supposed to be a one time install or something.

My Computer

I think it was actually because I didn't deactivate it before re-installing, but what can you do if your system is too screwed up to deactivate anything.

Oh so you had it installed on another computer? With single license OEM copies you can only install it on one computer. They won't let you install it on another even if you have removed it. That's the downside to buying an OEM copy.

Windows Vista and transferability: why it's a waiting game

No as I said before I was trying to reinstall on the same computer even the same hard drive. Anyway I resolved my problem I tried the link wither 3 gave me and chatted with a person from Microsoft support I went around and around with this guy. Apparently the idea of someone building their own computer and installing the OS themselves was so alien to him that he just couldn't wrap his mind around it he gave me a phone number for activation. I phoned the number and found myself on another merry go round. From there I was transferred to another number where the lady and I couldn't understand each other very well. She had me phonetically spell out the product key after about 15 hilarious minutes she finally got the key down. She then told me if I was having an installation problem I could get microsoft support for $59 I said no thanks it was already installed I just needed someone to pull up there activation screen and switch my activation on. She kept repeating like a parrot that I could get installation help for $59. At that point I had an epiphany I realized that it was time to move on that I was done with Vista. I have since loaded my trusty copy of XP and have no regrets. If I ever buy a Microsoft OS again I'll make sure I own one license that I can install as often as I want and where ever I want I can install it up my ass if I want. No more install only once OEM liscense. They do have such a license don't they? Where as long is it's not installed in more than 1 machine at a time it's yours.

I had a similar problem with Symantec. I got a virus and was able to remove it by a system restore. I called Symantec to renew my anti-virus subscription. While I was there, I griped because Norton didn't catch the virus. She immediately transferred me to another department and the lady there insisted that I spend $100 to let them remove the virus. She said if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to renew my subscription. We went round and round since I had already removed the virus but there was no reasoning with them so I just politely thanked them and hung up. A couple of nights later I called to renew my subscription and there was no problem.

I''ll bet I could've eventually got results but there's no telling how long it would've taken. Like I said XP is up and running so I have what I need beside I'll be using XAMPP a lot in the next few months and XP is the recommended Windows platform fro XAMPP. I have another HD I might load Ubuntu on, I haven't tried Linux in years maybe they support more stuff now.

I've never had a problem with the activation people so perhaps you got the wrong group. Perhaps you got people only trained in helping with installations. When you try to activate the is an option to activate by phone. You select that it gives you the number to call based upon your country. I know that your experience must have been frustrating and believe me having been on both sides of the fence, I know that phone support is tricky. I'm not saying that you are one of those people but once I had a very irate customer who was so out of control by the time I got her I couldn't help her because she just wouldn't calm down and co-operate. Sometimes people on the other end are having a bad day however that doesn't explain how you got nowhere with multiple calls. Something I do when I am not being helped is ask for a supervisor. I've learned that a little bit of patience goes a long way for everyone.

As for installing XP it's unfortunate that you had to go that route because XP is so old IMO it shouldn't be used anymore. Keep in mind that in 2014 it will be completely out of support which means that there will be no more new updates or security fixes.

I absolutely did talk to a activate by phone person, she kept telling me bring up the activation screen and I kept telling her I wasn't on Vista that my Vista wasn't useable at this point, I did ask to talk to her supervisor she transferred me to this person who barely speaks English( a brilliant strategy Dilbert would appreciate) anyway as I mentioned before after spending 20 min of reading her my product key she told me I could get help installation help for $59. I've gone over this stuff in a previous post. Check out my site Jim's Lounge Public Domain video, music by Andres Segovia there's some entertaining stuff there. I appreciate your concern but don't worry about my Vista issues because as I mentioned earlier I no longer have Vista issues.
