This is a tricky one.

For some time when trying to edit or change images I get a message saying there is a fault. I simply have clicked off and continued. No problem. Yesterday reading about this on another site I followed an instruction:
Search Box
cmd
right click in program list
enter sfc/scanner

which is supposed to fix it.

It did.

However now :

a) all my thumbnails have been replaced by an icon
b) when I try to open I get this message:

Windows Live Photo Gallery encountered an error loading WLX PhotoViewer.dll and can't start.
Error Code OX800700f

I'm a novice at this stuff as I have mentioned before, but you guys give good advice. Could this be a Advpack.dll that has somehow been corrupted by the previous action or is it perhaps a registry problem or what?
I keep the system updated automatically for Windows updates so assume there is not a driver problem, or could there be?

Any help, as usual, gratefully received, but please keep it primer one!

Thanks

Are you running Vista or Win 7?

I noticed that you mentioned running SFC/Scannow instead of SFC /Scannow (notice the space after SFC). You should run the latter.

Wither,

Sorry. I thought this was just the Vista site. I run Vista Premium 32 bit. So you think if I repeat the scan as you state this might fix the problem?
Thanks for getting back.

Did you try sfc /scannow? Wither noticed that you had no space after sfc; I tried that and to my surprise the command still ran. However in your post you said sfc/scanner. That is an invalid command and if you read the text after you run that command it tells you what the valid parameters are. In your case it is sfc /scannow. sfc /scanner does nothing. Also you have to right click and select run as administrator. You did not explicitly say that you did that just that you right clicked. Give that a try and tell us if it makes a difference.

I am logged on as administrator. I ran the scan and this is what came up:

WRP found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
For example c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log

I still cannot open any thumbnail and get the same fault message as reported before.

My apologies about the question regarding Vista or Win 7. I was thinking that Vista didn't have Photo Gallery but I'm wrong. I was on my Win 7 machine last night so didn't check it until this morning on my Vista machine.

I think Richc46 always says to run the scan at least three times.
