Vista + TEAC Floppy

Hello,

I really need help as I have exhausted all possibilities, short of buying an "old" Computer.
I have an older Embroidery machine that reads 3.5 floppies and no way to change that. I purchased a program for creating my own stuff and a Teac USB Floppy. The dealer said would work with my computer.
Guess what it doesn't! Driver info says it is up to date. When I try and format, I get the standard check device, disk etc.,may be read only blah, blah. I read here after the fact, that Vista does not recognize floppy systems. Is there anything I can do so that I am not wasting my hundreds of $ spent?

I thank you in advance for any help.

Hi,

Vista will recognise 1.4MB & 2.8MB (High density, Square in corner of disk) floppy's but NOT 720K (Single density, NO square hole in disk)

Does your floppy have a hole in the corner & the write protect one?

Just chiming in, pre-formatted floppies should be dirt cheap now. Formatting is just a waste of time. Plus the "factory formatted" usually holds the formatting longer than "home made" format in my experience.

Also you can still get free download software that creates virtual floppy disk images. For awhile I was hot to get a floppy because of all the old bootable Dos utilities for floppies. But if you search you may find most have been adapted or you can find info to adapt them to use on a USB by creating a 1.44 MB image on the USB key.

Hmm, well my floppy's are brand new 3.5" DS/DD Floppy Disk 720K as that is apparently the better to run for the embroidery machine. Will try to get the ones mentioned above.
@MilesAhead the embroidery machine only reads floppys and there is no way to upgrade that to a USB. Otherwise, I would be all over it unless I am not understanding you about the the virtual images.
I thank you both for your help. and any other advise would be great.

If the machine can run the virtual image software, then the program will see the image as drive A:

There are a bunch of them around. I haven't used it in a bit so I don't remember which ones work best.
