missing dll, side by side configuration is incorrect

Hi,

When I try to run my DivX plus player I get the following error message:

"Missing divxmain DLL:

C:\Program Files (x86)\DivX\DivX Plus Player\DivX Plus Player.dll

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details."

I have searched through other posts to try to find a solution to this but they all seem very specific to each problem and I don't want to do anything crazy that will mess things up even worse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

adam

When I tried to install the first of the .Net Framework files I got the following message:

"the upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

Please advise.

Hi Adam,

I'm really sorry, but I made a mistake. I hadn't seen that you have 64 bit Windows and those links are for x86 (32 bit). Did you manage to install any of them? If so, I would like you to do a system restore to before you installed them.

Here are the x64 links:

VC++ Redistributables - Download in the same order as before: 2005; 2005 SP1; 2008; 2008 SP1, 2010, 2010 SP1

Download: Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

.NET Framework in the same order: 1.0 SP3; 1.1 SP1; 2.0 SP1; 3.0 SP1; 3.5 SP1, 4.0, Windows Installer 4.5

Download: .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: .NET 2.0 SP1 (x64) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (Standalone Installer) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Download: Windows Installer 4.5 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

Sorry for the confusion! Those are the correct links :)

I installed the visual C++ files but non of the .Net files.

Can I just start installing the new ones, or do I need to do a system restore before hand. If I do, please let me know what I need to do as I don't really know what a system restore entails. For example do I need to back up all my files before I do that.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Adam,

I think it would be best to remove the wrong ones before we install the correct ones. The best way to go about removing these would be a system restore. We have a tutorial on how to do a system restore:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

Use option 1.

Choose a restore point that was made before we installed those VC++ redistributables :) If you're unsure about anything, just give me a shout.

A system restore shouldn't touch your files. It will, however, remove any programs that you've recently (after the restore point was made) installed. If your files are very precious to you, I would back them up just in case. It can't hurt :) Basically, a system restore reverts your system to what it was like at a previous time BUT it doesn't touch any user files.

You might not need the 2008 redistributable. You would need to ask someone about your DivX player, possibly at their forum.

Are you installing SP1 of the 2008 redistributable?

Whenever I have added the redistributables, I don't use the original. I always use the SP and haven't had any problems. That's why I asked you about it.
