Computer shuts off after 30 minutes

I have recently custom built a computer. Intel i5 3.3GHz, 8gig RAM, Windows Vista Home Basic: SP2, solid state harddrive, GeForce GT 640, 750w powersupply

It's running great, but the computer shuts down after running for 30 minutes. Existing threads hint at overheating. So I checked on the temperatures to find that everything is holding steady around 40 degrees C.

My only hunch is that it's some type of windows restriction (they had locked my vista key when I went to get this computer up and running this computer. and eventually helped me through the install after a phone call. Could the shut downs be related to this?)

Any other ideas?!

Go to the computer icon on your desktop, right click and then properties. Do you see the official MS emblem in lower right?

If you have that emblem, you should have no restrctions. You are fully activated
Go to search and type event viewer. Go to adminstrative Left column and then look for errors at the time of the shut down.

Lets try this, get a Ubuntu livecd and run on the livecd.

This will take the windows install out of the equation.

Lets have a look at the activation status properly....

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

There's nothing to say that a Custom build won't have a COA sticker - in fact there *should* have one, unlees the builder is the user, in which case, the Key should be a retail one.

The COA (although I admit, I'm not sure what the 'NA' means!) is for Vista Home Basic - but the installed Key is also for Home Basic, and a Retail version, which has been activated......

The motherboard appears to be a retail one from Intel.
The installation is showig as being properly activated,

The evidence so far says that the install is legitimate, valid, and activated - what happens if y
ou go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate ?

UPDATE:
I swapped out power supplies --> Same problem
I removed the graphics card --> Same problem

Looks like we're getting down to the core of the board, perhaps the motherboard processor or RAM? Maybe there's something I've overlooked on the way...

Download MemTest86+ from www.memtest.org and create the Bootable CD. boot to it, and run 5 or so passes (at least an hour or two, anyhow) and see if it reports problems.
