Hi bigcroc,

In addition, run the built-in diagnostics provided by the manufacturer on the computer to check if the hardware is working fine.

Please post the results.

I see Zorin is a flavor of Linux. Usually these OS's come with a boot manager program, but I'm not sure if they're all the same or if Zorin's is well regarded. It sounds like it didn't play nicely with your system.

When you boot up, press F9 and then select the CD drive. You should be able to get that far. I prefer this, as sometimes selecting the order in the BIOS does not avoid a HD check, and as such an error encountered could throw off the whole boot process. It should work most of the time, but I've seen cases where it doesn't behave as expected.

Hi bigcroc,

If you have the Operating System disc then we can try to repair the file in the command Prompt.

Boot from the Operating System disc and follow the onscreen instructions to access the System Recovery Options screen, select Command Prompt and press enter.

If you want to restore the master boot record, you can simply type in the following command:bootrec /fixmbr

You can also write a new boot sector onto the system partition with this command (which is often more useful): bootrec /fixboot

Please post the results.

Hi bigcroc,

We can also try to remove the static power from the computer and check, to remove the static power please follow the below mentioned step:

1. To remove the static power, power off the computer
2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the computer (for desktop and for laptop disconnect the adapter and battery).
3. Press the power button for 10-15 seconds.
4. Connect the power cable back to the computer.
5. Check if it is able to boot from the disc.

Change the Boot priority and make CD/DVD drive as first boot device followed by Hard Drive and check if it works.

If issue persists, try with a different Operating System disc (if available or if you can arrange one) and then try to perform the steps for repair.

Kindly post the results.

Hi bigcroc,

You would need to download all the three files X14-63453.exe, boot.wim, install.wim to create a Bootable USB key.

Please post the results.
