Pages hang when loading

Hi,
I have chrome browser and vista OS
many web pages hang when loading
the small blue wheel turns forever
and a notice at the bottom of the browser saying: waiting for ***.com

This makes pages very slow to open and sometimes not open at all.
I have tried IE and Firefox and have the same problem.

I have tried browsing through a proxy website and pages load reasonably well, there does not seem to be any hanging or waiting for a particular site to respond.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

thanks, jack.

I wonder if there is some program that by a mouse click or similar, I can block the address that is hanging, while it is hanging, allowing the webpage to then continue loading.

Sounds like it may be a problem with memory. What are the specs of your computer?

It's a new problem, a couple of months old.
I haven't changed anything, and I have tried everything I know how, to fix the problem, even reinstalling the operating system.
So it seems to me to be with internet or connection settings, although my speed is good, downloading files from the internet at around 700kbps.

But I have this problem of websites hanging when loading in my browser, even this site, I have to refresh the page a few times before it properly loads, and not being able to post this reply without having to click on the reply to thread button about three times because the page only partially loads.
If I browse the web through a proxy website the browsing is reasonably good.
But ofcourse going through a proxy website is slower than normal browsing should be.

Have you by any chance got more than 1 active security software protecting your computer. I have seen the same issues if, for instance, I activate Malwarebytes Pro protection in addition to that already provided by my antivirus software suite.
The pages will usually load, but extremely slowly.

Thanks Ex, I don't have any conflicts with security programs but thanks for that tip, I will try to remember it.

And thanks rich for that link. Doing a clean boot made no difference, but there's a lot of other links at the bottom of that page to look at, it could be a while before I get through it.
I haven't been to a internet cafe or used WI-FI, I have satellite broadband, I don't think I can take my laptop anywhere to try another connection?

Trying another location was a test to determine if the ISP, router or your computer was the problem.
If you do not work in clean boot, I do not think it has much to do with the OS. If it did not work with Clean boot, it probably is not the AV, since that was not used with the clean boot
