Vista not using full display size.

Well I'm not sure how to describe this accurately. (I tried to take a screen shot but that didn't capture the issue).
My laptop screen appears to be working fine however windows doesnt seem to want to use the entire area of the laptop screen. It's only using about 75%. I'm losing about 2" on the right hand side and about 1/2" on the bottom. I've played with all the resolution and screen size settings that I know of and can't seem to get it to go back.
Need some help troubleshooting this and getting it back to normal.
Any help is appreciated. Again. Screenshot doesn't capture it so I'm thinking windows setup has the screen smaller than it actually is? dunno.

When did this problem begin? In other words, is this a laptop you own which was working and now it's not, or is it someone else's laptop with an unknown history?
What does Windows show as the screen resolution...1024 x 768?

My Computer

Virtual6, this is a unit I've had for a long time. Just started doing it all of a sudden. Screen size shown is 1024x768, Which is strange.
I do have a three year old that occasionally touches the computer for a second but I wouldn't think she could change the screen size. Still scratching head.

Your specs list the Mobile Intel 4 Chipset for graphics.
So here is the support site:
Support for the Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Then follow the "Display Resolutions FAQ" link, and look for the question "The Windows desktop is smaller than my display screen".
They go into some detail about how to adjust the scaling through an Intel control panel.

To check your drivers, this same support site has to links to a driver utility which can detect available driver updates.
This is an Intel utility...another poster in this thread offered a link to an NVIDIA site, why would you want go there?

I reinstalled the Chipset Family driver. did not fix the issue.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the monitor device driver.
I hooked up an external monitor and that monitor displays the screen correctly. I can go full screen externally but not on the laptop.

Any additional help is appreciated.

It is set at 1024x768. The only other option is 800x600.

And I see by looking up the spec I should have 1280x800 resolution but I don't even have that option when changing display settings.
