Ideal BagMRU Size

Hi,

I have recently resurrected a Dell E6400 that originally came with a 160 GB HD and Vista Business installed. Recently I cloned the HD onto a 500GB HD so it could be partitioned for a Linux Mint install and dual boot configuration.

Vista works fine except that it no longer saves folder size settings. By that I mean when I open a folder it displays in some seemingly default size. When I am moving files around, I normally open two folders on the desktop, one from and one too. I move the margins so that each takes up exactly half of the screen vertically.

However when I close them and reopen them, they display in the default size and somewhat overlapped.

I understand that this can be corrected by changing the BagMRU Size which is currently 20000. Can anyone suggest the best value for this setting to correct this. I do not have problem editing the registry. I could try various values but don't want to risk screwing things up.

Thanks in advance, :)

I thought the maximum setting in XP was 495 (it might've been 4500 ... lol). Nonetheless, I use Explorer++ as a File Manager (it looks a lot like Windows XPs Explorer), and you can save one setting for all folders.

Thanks Jody, I am using Vista on one machine and Win 7 Pro and Ultimate on several others. Do you know if Explorer++ will work on these systems.

I had the folder issue with Vista back in 2009 and fixed it back then, but cannot remember how I did that. Now I write it all down and save my note in files on my system. I guess there are not too many folks using Vista any more. It was a bit quirky at first but still a lot better than Micropoop's latest.

Thanks Jody, I will give it a whirl. I am out of town today and for about 10 days, but will download it when I get back to earth. :)

Best regards,
