MSE Microsoft Security Essentials support ending for Vista

    Hello,

I'm running Windows Vista x64 Ultimate with all the latest updates.

Recently MSE (version 4.10 ) started to produce pop-up messages with something about when support for Windows Vista ends.

MSE had been running with in the taskbar with a green icon. That icon is now orange.

After opening MSE there is a message:

"Support for this operating system is ending. When this occurs Microsoft Security Essentials will no longer be supported and your PCM might be unprotected. To make sure your PC stays protected, click the link below to see our end-of-support guidance for operating systems."

When I click on the link a MS webpage opens with a heading

    Windows XP support has ended

Googling end-of support for Vista results

OS service pack End of extended support
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 April 11, 2017

Does this mean MSE along with virus and spyware definitions will be supported under Vista until April 11th, 2017?

I did a search for MSE related message but for some reason that post didn't show up.

Anyway I went through this same sort of scenario with XP. I'm assuming Windows Defender support will also be discontinued?

I'll probably install a 3rd party security software. I have a Windows 8 upgrade but not planning to install on a 10 year old Vista PC , even though it has a 2.13 Ghz core 2 duo and 4 gigs memory. The hardware design is fairly old compared to newer PCs with later hardware architectures, better suited for Windows 8 and 10

Actually, Windows 8 is quite snappy, and should run even better on that Vista PC. When I was trying out the Windows 8.1 preview, I tried it out on a machine that was a P4 3 GHz with 1 GB of RAM. It works decently on that. If Vista ran well on your machine, Windows 8 will run better.
