Recovering system

Hi,

My computer suddenly turned itself off the other night whilst I was reading a web page. When I rebooted it, wavy lines appeared around the 'vaio' symbol and lots of noughts appeared on the screen. It wouldn't open any further and remained on a blank screen. I was able to open the computer in 'safe' mode by continually pressing the F8 key so was able to remove all my files. I have successfully restored the system before so decided to try it again and went through the procedure using my recovery discs. Everything appeared to work and the computer restarted itself, displaying the following message: Please wait a moment while windows prepares to start for the first time……………. Unfortunately this is as far as it goes!
Can anyone help?

How long did you let it go when you got that message? I would let it go an hour just to be sure it's not doing anything.

Do you have any USB peripherals attached besides your keyboard and mouse? If you do, disconnect them before you start the recovery.
