Vista Issue with connecting Laptop to TV

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums and hope someone can help me out with this problem. I am trying to connect my new Dell XPS M1530 to my HDTV via S-Video. However, since I do not have a cable with both S-Video ends I am using a composite video cable ---> S-video converter cable between the tv and laptop. This setup works perfectly with my older Inspiron 6000, which runs on XP, however i can not get it to work with the M1530 which runs Vista Home Premium 32bit. I have made sure that all my settings on the laptop are correct and from the Windows Mobility Center it even says an HDTV Display has been detected but my laptop does not show up on the TV. I just get a blue screen on the TV that says "No Signal or Weak Signal". I have made sure that the clone option under my Nvidia Control Panel is selected and the entire setup works perfectly on XP. I feel like I am missing something with Vista but can't seem to figure it out. If anyone can help that'd be great. Thank you!

Update:

I managed to get an HDMI cable and it immediately worked with my TV/laptop and the quality is amazing. However, I am not getting any audio from the TV. Is there any specific setting to switch the audio from the laptop to the tv? Thanks so much.

Update 2:

Found a solution :). Went to control panel --> sound ---> HDMI ---> clicked Set Default.
