Desktop, icons, everything suddenly too big

I have only had my computer for about 2 months now and it has always worked fine with my monitor. The other day I set the computer to sleep and went to walk out of the room I turned around and it was back on and the desktop, icons, firefox etc. all look big and stretched out. I have played around with the resolution but that really only mildly helps and is not the prob.

Any help would be great im not all that great when it comes to computers and dont know where to start. The monitor is a 20" Sceptre lcd. computer is a ZT Systems with Integrated Intel GMA3100 Graphics

Hello WorkrszR, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might also check to make sure that you DPI is still set to the default of 96 dpi. If that is not it either, then see reinstalling or updating your video driver may help.

Why not just try a system restore to a point before this started happening.

Ctrl+scroll wheel only effects the internet etc. not my actual desk top. Even messing with it or resolution it seems like every thing is stretched to the right maybe.

I tried a system restore earlier..........4 times to different restore points......good to know that doesn't work. I keep getting a message saying that "An unspecified error occured during system restore" and that my files and settings were unchanged.

I have also ran a complete scan on the machine with my Norton anti virus and also adaware and malware removers.

Resolution is set at 1024x768 and refresh is at 60hertz, im not sure what the monitors default is.

is this it?? Newegg.com - SCEPTRE X20WG-1080P Black 20.1" 5ms(GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 Built in Speakers - LCD Monitors

if so your res wants to be 1680x1050 75hz (if it fails and it says "out of range" dont worry itll reset itself after 15 seconds if this happens set the freq to 60hz somemonitors need a little tweaking in the graphics roperties to run 75hz but definately try that fist 75hz is better)

If this doesnt help im thinking its your monitor settings not your pc

Try holding in CTRL and using the scroll wheel

FWIW, and for those who arrive here in the future with the same problem: THIS WORKED for me. In my case, everything was fine when I looked away from my desktop, then when I looked back the icons were huge. I must have accidentally and unknowingly held Ctrl while turning the mouse scroll wheel at some point when I wasn’t looking. (This isn’t an unlikely scenario for me.) Consciously using the Ctrl + scroll wheel combination gave me the "control" to fix the problem -- in fact, I can set the icons to a selection of sizes now.
This solution works, or at least it did in my situation. LSNED.
