ATI Radeon x1800- Monitor problems

Please help, I plugged in a new graphics card and my current monitor will not receive a signal--it is still plugged into my vista monitor spot and not the card directly since the port is differen. I downloaded new drivers but that didn't help.
Any direction?

how did you download new drivers if the graphics card wont work? its a very old graphics card, maybe download the display adapters for your monitor
