Solved Using laptop screen as desktop monitor

My sister has an HP laptop and I wish to use it as a monitor for my desktop computer as my main monitor has died. How do you get a laptop to display whats on your desktop PC?

From what I know, the cable that connects the monitor to the PC fits into the laptop, but only changes the resolution of the laptop screen (adding two thick black bars on each side).

So how do I make whats on my desktop computer appear on the laptop?

Hey Peter, you sure do pose some good ones.. how bout , if you are gonna tie up her laptop , just set up an Ad hoc network and just use her computer ? Maximum PC | 5 Networking Tips and Tricks

Just a thought, or go to thrift shop and see if they have a cheap monitor for 5 bucks or so, til you can replace yours. By the time you buy all the adapter cables and such , i don't know, just thinking of a cheap way for you to use your files and such .

5 bucks? Seriously? Monitors here go up to a maximum of over £300.

The cheapest one I've seen is £79.

Dosen't matter now anyway, I'm using a flatscreen TV right now but I will still get a monitor anyway :).
