Hi friends! My friend has Vista Basic 32 bit Dell.

Well she had gotten this new flat screen 22 inch and the resolution was not right etc. So my friend decided to update her graphic's card. So she updated it and now it wont just go right into setup mode, it just goes to a black screen and it tells her to plug in the monitor to her other graphic's card. Now she has two different size monitor connections, and the 22" flat screen only has one connection plug in type. At the bottom of the black screen it says, press F2 to go into start up, or F12 to Bios.

So hummm not sure what to do here do you know how she can solve this problem??

Thanks

Welcome
The mistake that your friend made was to assume that newer is better. I had a similar problem with a graphics update and removed it.
Go back to before the problem with system restore to rollback the changes to the grapics card.
Since I am not sure if you are talking about a driver, I am suggesting system restore.

If it were indeed a driver, go to search and type device manager. In device manager go to display adapters and rollback the driver.

Aside from what richc46 said, is this a laptop? If so, she should get graphics drivers from the Dell support site.

No this is not a laptop it is a Dell PC. She downloaded an update on graphic's then it messed up her system so uninstalled it but it became worse so then she was stuck reinstalling the update, plus her new monitor graphic's driver update as well. However she still has the problem that when she starts her computer she has to press F1 to get her computer in setup mode. She tried system restore four times it did not work it wont restore period.

What can we do to change all that she has done?

What graphics card does she have.

The documentation for the flat screen should indicate what type of connector it has. What is it?

If I understand you correctly, you can't boot into Windows?

Does she still have the old monitor?

It is not an old monitor it is a newer monitor. We noticed her computer has another adapter which is an older version of adapter that the new monitor does not have. To me this is all crazy! It should work with all computers. anyway she is going to buy the adapter with two different heads so to speak.

You know the pc model number? This wai I can look at its specs.

Judging by what you've described, the pc has a vga and a dvi connector. Which is normal... When you said the resolution wasn't right, what wasn't right? Were the icons too small?

Sorry for the confusion so far, monitors should not be this difficult to get going.

The reason I asked about the graphics card model number and the monitor connection is to ascertain whether or not you needed an adapter or a different cable.

Hopefully, what you're doing will answer that.
